After gathering over 200 signatures of registered Elgin voters, the election to pass the Elgin Freedom Act, which will decriminalize low-level marijuana possession in Elgin, will be held on November 8, 2022.

What does the ballot language actually say?

This will be an “initiated ordinance” to change Elgin city law. The measure will eliminate enforcement of low-level marijuana offenses.

Am I registered to vote in this election?

Every currently registered voter in the city of Elgin is eligible to vote in the November 8 election. Not sure if you're registered to vote? We can help you check and register to vote if you're eligible. The deadline for new voter registrations in the November 8 election is October 11, 2022.

What do I need to bring to the polls?

In order to vote in-person or to return your mail-in ballot in person in Texas, you'll need an acceptable form of photo ID, current or expired less than 4 years.

  • US military ID with photo
  • US citizenship certificate with photo
  • US passport

I don't have any of those forms of ID. Can I still vote?

Yes. If your ID is expired by *more than four years*, or if you don't possess one of the 7 acceptable forms of photo ID, you are still eligible to vote, but you'll need to fill out a form called a "reasonable impediment form".
